1939 Batman Dectective Comics No.2 smashes Superman’s record

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

On Monday 22nd February 2010 Superman’s first comic book became the first comic to sell for $1 million, making it the worlds most prestigious comic. However just three days later on Thursday 25th February, 1939 Dectective comics issue number 27 which features Batman’s first ever appearance sold for $1,075,500 beating Superman’s record!

The previous record was held for a 1938 Superman comic which sold for $317,000 back in 2009.

According to Mr Allen (sales director of Heritage) their have been only a maximum of 200 copies of Dectective Comics No.27 in existance. When it was sold back in 1939 the retail price was 10 cents for the comic, the owner who put his copy up for sale purchased his for $100 during the 1960′s. The comic was rated 8/10 in condition so is in a reasonably mint state.

This has to be fantastic news for any Batman fan, as this is a clear indication that Batman is the most popular and sort after superhero/comic book today.

Adam West’s Birthday

Saturday, September 19th, 2009

Heya!

Today (19th September), Adam West celebrates his 81st birthday. Bat-Mania UK wishes Adam a very happy birthday and hopes he has a great day!

Info below from my Batman webpage:

Adam was born in Wala Wala Washington in 1928. He was actually born as William West Anderson but changed his name to the more dynamic Adam West in 1957. Before Adam landed in Hollywood he was a disc jockey in Hawaii and a radio presenter for the programe “The Kini Popo Show”. When Adam landed in Hollywood in 1957 he enjoyed fame in the show “The Detectives” just before he played Batman.

When Adam was asked to consider the role as Batman he replied; “are you serious, I am trying to have a serious career”. Nethertheless, he auditioned for the show, was filmed in the screen test and chosen for the role as Batman, which later became his signature role.

Mid-Atlantic Nostalgia Convention

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

I have just received an e-mail from the events co-ordinator for this convention which will take place between 27-29 August in Maryland USA. All information can be found at the conventions website : http://www.midatlanticnostalgiaconvention.com/

Lee Meriwether who played Catwoman in the 1966 Batman Movie will be at the convention. Lee is also famous for her roles in Star Trek and The Time Tunnel. Also Bob Hastings who played as Major Beasley in the “Penguin Sets A Trend” episode of Batman will be attending. Bob also has done voiceovers for Batman cartoons, he is the voice of Commissioner Gordon in Batman TAS (1992-94) and also for the film Sub Zero (1998). I have been told that he has not been at a convention for a decade so if your a fan I suggest going.

This convention is a charity event in which all proceeds benefit the St. Jude Childrens Hospital.

DC Comics Vs Johnny Resin

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

Today DC Comics has sued Johnny Stacks from Florida, accusing him of copyright fraud by making then selling unauthorized figurine kits (pictured above) based on the 1960s Batman television series.

You may have seen his website, it has been featured within my links pages for a few years now at http://www.johnnysresin.com/ which has now been closed down leaving this message; ““THIS SITE IS CLOSED AND NO LONGER PRODUCES ANY RESIN KITS OR ANY OTHER ITEMS!”.

Mr Stacks claims he has agreements with the actors/actresses who appear in the figurines. But DC Comics claims to be annoyed with the statement on his website which read “All images on this site are resin kits built by John Stacks . Not DC Characters.” Which infact they are DC charcters also DC claims that they have asked several times previously for Mr Stacks to stop selling his figurines. And accuses him on cutting into lucrative profits.

Mr Stacks has issued this statement reguarding the lawsuit; “”I don’t have the money to fight this, so I don’t know where I’m going to go with it”.
